Green goal 3: Reduce energy usage by 10%
Deeds, not words. Because energy is not inexhaustible, responsible energy usage is an absolute must. That's why Center Parcs believes in sustainability; whether it concerns the heating of our villas or purifying the water in Aqua Mundo.
We purchase energy-efficient household equipment.
Green deeds:
- As soon as an oven becomes worn out, we replace it with a high-performance model
- Larger items, like washing machines and fridges, are usually Class A. This means that they are of the highest quality in terms of water and/or energy usage.
- With smaller items, too, like coffee machines and toasters, we always select the most energy-efficient model available.
We use energy-saving lighting in our parks and villas.
Green deeds:
- Even in the Netherlands and Belgium, there's enough sunlight to collect and store energy. In the future, all of the external lighting in our parks will be powered by solar energy, for example.
- All of our central buildings and villas make use of energy-saving light bulbs. The light they produce is just as bright, but they use less energy and do not contain liquid mercury. So far, we have fitted more than 51,000 energy-saving light bulbs.
We heat our villas in an intelligent way.
Green deeds:
- It is wasteful to heat a villa when the guests are not there. That's why most of our parks make use of intelligent thermostats, which react to movement and light. If no-one is there, the temperature is automatically decreased by a couple of degrees.
- In addition, the heating of our central buildings is controlled by a Building Management System, which regulates the correct temperature at the right times.
We recycle water from swimming pools and aquariums as much as possible.
Green deeds:
- The water from the aquariums and swimming pool in De Vossemeren is re-used. We capture the pumped water from the aquariums and swimming pool filters in a buffer, where it is purified using an osmosis technique.
- For more than 20 years, we have used a special water storage system. For example, we use rainwater to maintain a consistent level of water in our ponds and lakes
We use electricity from renewable energy sources.
Green deeds:
- Since 1998, electricity in De Vossemeren, De Eemhof and De Kempervennen has been generated using heat-power coupling technology. The cooling water used for this technical installation also is indirectly used to heat the swimming pools.
- The laundrette at Erperheide is fitted with solar panels to heat the water. This makes the wash doubly clean!
