Between 5 April and 7 October 2012, the Floriade World Horticultural Expo will be taking place in Venlo.
This expo will consist of 5 different worlds: themed zones that are joined together by woods. Worlds in which you’ll constantly see, feel and experience nature in a different way. A daily cultural programme will feature music, dance, literature, theatre and visual arts from around the globe. You’ll be amazed time and time again.

The Maasduinen National Park

The Maasduinen National Park is a unique area of natural beauty featuring the longest river dune belt in the Netherlands. Over the centuries, this dune region along the River Maas has come about as a result of a combination of water, wind and man. Following the last ice age, a large part of Noord-Limburg and Midden-Limburg was covered with a layer of sand ground, blown up by the wind to form dunes in the shape of parabolas. There are countless walking, cycling and mountain bike routes to explore in the area. You can also make a short trip to the Maas valley that lies next to this area.

Arcen Castle Gardens

In the centuries-old castle at Arcen, which is now used as an exhibition area, there are wonderful gardens to be admired. Wander through the different gardens, such as the Rosarium, the water gardens and the Casa Verde greenhouses. Next to the gardens, you can also find the estate, where you can marvel at a variety of natural and cultural landscapes. In the park itself, you can also see various types of animals; squirrel monkeys climbing around on their island, all sorts of birds, including birds of prey, cranes and flamingos, as well as different species of fish. A professional falconer will guide you with the birds of prey, and special demonstrations will be held. In the autumn and winter months, you can even become a falconer yourself.

Hertog Jan brewery

In the relaxed atmosphere of the Hertog Jan Brewery, a guide will tell you everything you need to know about brewing Hertog Jan beer. The location of the brewery is exactly the same as 100 years ago, when it was founded by four brewers. You can follow the whole process of turning water into beer. And of course, you’ll get a chance to taste the beer as well. After the guided tour, there will be a delicious glass of beer waiting for you at the Hertog Jan Proeverij.

National Liberation Museum 1944-1945

Nestled in between the hills and forests close to Groesbeek lies the National Liberation Museum 1944-1945. This is where the past is brought to life through dioramas, typical scents, music, and original film excerpts from the 1940s, as well as speeches from that era.

Gennep

In the historical and friendly town centre of Gennep, there are various monuments to be admired. The medieval town wall, the town hall, the Genneperhuis, the Martinus tower, as well as the Ellen Hoffmann square with its mosaics, are all well worth a visit, as is the castle in Heijen.
