World Heritage Site Völklinger HütteBack to the list
The World Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte (Vöklingen Iron Works) is one of UNESCO's current 38 World Heritage Sites in Germany. In its importance, it is considered to be on a par with the Egyptian pyramids, the Great Wall of China, Cologne Cathedral and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.
On its 1,400 m2 premises, the new UNESCO Visitors' Centre offers a programmatic introduction to the Völklinger Hütte World Heritage Site. The 7,000 m visitors' circuit then leads you deep down into the dark hallways of the "Möllerhalle" warehouse, then high up to the observation platform at the blast furnace and finally to the "Paradise" surrounding the coke plant.
